Impact snapshot: Based on a child’s progress through Roots, Leaves and Wings

A real example of what stage‑not‑age provision makes possible

“A pupil joined with significant communication needs, high anxiety around change, limited attention, and reliance on 1:1 support. She used gestalt language, struggled to initiate play, and could only remain engaged for short bursts. Daily routines, transitions and social interactions required continuous adult scaffolding.

With targeted Roots and Leaves activities, structured routines, and a personalised workstation, she made rapid, meaningful progress. Her communication moved from gestalt phrases to clear sentence requests, her on‑task time increased dramatically, and she began engaging socially with peers. She developed independence, confidence and regulation strategies that allowed her to participate more fully in the school day including managing playtimes without 1:1 support”
